Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a standardised method used to evaluate the environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product's life (i.e. from raw material extraction, through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair and maintenance, and disposal or recycling).

Benchmarking

Sika UK is an industry leader with a pioneering portfolio of sustainable products, systems and services that are designed to be efficient in energy, material and water use. Therefore all new product developments are benchmarked via LCA against existing products in the Sika portfolio and competitive technologies, to ensure that they meet our stringent sustainability expectations.

Project Specific LCA Reports

Sika can now offer specific LCA evaluations for individual projects, which can help gain additional credits under “Man 02 Life Cycle Cost & Service Life Planning” within BREEAM.

The LCA is performed in house by the Sika Roofing Technical Services team, modelled in the GaBi 6.3 software and carried out according to ISO 14040 series and EN 15804. As a standard approach, Sika evaluates all impact categories and resource indicators deemed as important according to these standards. For Roofing, Cumulative Energy Demand (CED) and Global Warming Potential (GWP) are considered to be most relevant. This comprehensive approach enables the differentiation of Roofing systems that may have similar physical performance, but greater differences in their environmental impacts.
