Sika Sarnafil is dedicated to provide high quality training to help roofers reach their potential and ensure our products are applied with quality workmanship. Our bespoke training courses are designed to give Sarnafil’s Registered Contractors a full understanding of the requirements for working on our roofing systems, as well as health and safety, with a mix of theory, demonstrations and practical application work.
Our single ply course covers all of the areas required to achieve a Basic Competency Programme (BCP) certificate, a roofing industry initiative lead by the Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA).
Our courses are held at Sika Sarnafil’s Roofing Training Academy in Welwyn Garden City. We also offer onsite guidance from our Application Department, giving operatives direct support. The availability of training will no doubt help to improve the reputation of the industry with potential employees.
Contractor Management Training
The seminar, designed exclusively for our Registered and Provisional Contractors’ management personnel, is intended to cover the background, administration requirements, and our support services. It also highlights technical aspects of working with Sarnafil, including roof design. We also cover site practices related to our single ply roofing products, and offer practical advice, particularly relevant to estimating, design, ordering and site management.
Registered Contractor Training
The training course, designed exclusively for our Sika Sarnafil Registered and Provisional Contractors, focuses on the correct application and installation techniques for installing Sarnafil Single Ply Membrane Roofing Systems.
The four day training course is designed to ensure that the installers understand the requirements of working on Sarnafil roofing systems, and combines a mixture of theory, demonstrations, chat, videos, and practical application work. All trainees finish with a theory-based test, to ensure that the contractors have listened and learnt throughout the four days. A comprehensive Installation Guide is provided during the training, allowing trainees to concentrate on the practical elements of the course.
Basic Competency Programme (BCP)
Sarnafil has achieved accreditation for the 'Basic Competency Programme (BCP)' which has been developed as a roofing industry initiative and lead by the Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA). This is the first time that manufacturers' training has been officially recognised and has been seen to satisfy the requirements of a red, experienced worker Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
There are currently 600,000 contractors in the UK who are believed to have the wrong CSCS card for the skill level of the job that they do, therefore the BCP is a major new initiative to address the problem.
Having obtained a BCP Certificate on successful completion of the Sarnafil Fitters Training Course, an operative can then immediately apply to upgrade from a green card to a CSCS card, assuming their standard health and safety accreditation is up to date. The operative should then work towards achieving a blue skilled worker card within three years.
The course includes: Sika Sarnafil Installer Training, which covers the following topics required by the BCP programme:
- Health & Safety
- Roof Construction
- Design of Flat Roofs
- Contract Planning
- Types of Single Ply Systems
